The Every Home Counts website can be used as a way of reporting an empty property. Local authorities rely on information recorded from Council tax data to help identify long-term empty properties, however, the public can help assist the local authority by reporting empty properties.
By completing an e-form and including details of an empty property you can assist the local authority by highlighting properties.
The form allows you to report a property anonymously or if you wish you can leave your contact details. If the relevant local authority requires any further information they are then able to contact you.
It is important to note that there are many reasons why properties are left empty and it may not be possible for the local authority to tell you these reasons due to the Data Protection Act 1998. However, the local authority can then work with the owner with the aim of getting the property back into use as soon as possible.
